What you’ll need:

Tip: You should not use metal container or cutlery as this can mar the fragrance!

Pot Pourri has 3 elements, your filler, your fixative and you fragrance. It’s the fragrance added to the fixative that carries the smell more than the filler! As a rule of thumb for every cup of ‘filler’ you should have one TBSP of ‘fixative’ and for every TBSP of fixative you should use 4 drops of fragrance, but really you can add as much or as little as you want! The other great thing is you can use anything you want for your filler, I’ve listed the inrgedients I’ve used but if you don’t want to use some of these ro want ot add some more feel free to do so!

  • 5 Cups of “Filler”

We used Dried Orange Slices, Dried Orange Peel, Cinnamon Sticks, Dried Rose Buds, Star Anise and Juniper Berries.

  • 20 drops of “Fragrance”

I used Orange & Cinnamon fragrance.

  • 5 TBSPs of “Fixatives”

I used Orris Root Powder, Cinnamon Powder and Nutmeg Powder.

How To Make:

Step One

Mix your fixatives together (if you have more than one) in your bowl!

Step Two

Mix your fragrance in with your fixatives, and make sure it’s thoroughly mixed together.

Step Three

Mix all of your fillers together, and then pour your powder mixture over them. Give it a thorough mix to make sure everything is covered.

Step Four

Place your mixture in your air tight container. This can be an air tight jar like we used, or just a sealed bag! Now you should place this in a dark cupboard for 6-8 weeks to cure. The longer your leave your mixture, the stronger the scent will be!

Step Five

Take it out and enjoy the festive fragrance!

This recipe is brilliant because you can adapt it to any season or preference by just changing your  fillers, fragrance or fixatives!
